The coordinator of the AMERICAS project, Yolanda Ursa, will participate as Observer in the Senior Official Meeting – SOM on Science and Technology that will take place in Concepción, Chile on 20-21 March 2012.
The SOM is hosted by the Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica of Chile - CONICYT, co-leader of the EU-LAC ICT Working Group and partner of the AMERICAS project. It will be attended by senior officials from Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean countries, as well as representatives from the EC DGs Research & Innovation and Information Society and Media.
The SOM will be dedicated to monitor the Roadmap implementation of the EU-LAC Joint Initiative for Research and Innovation, adopted by the Madrid Ministerial Forum and EU-LAC Summit in 2010. Also, the Agenda will review the status of the Working Groups set up by the SOM in 2011: Bioeconomy and food security; Biodiversity and climate change; Energy and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
AMERICAS supports the ICT policy dialogue between Europe and Latin America in order to foster research and innovation cooperation between both regions. Prior to the SOM, the AMERICAS Annual ICT Forum will take place in Santiago, Chile on 16 March 2012. This co-creative and interactive workshop will encourage the emergence of pilot initiatives and concrete proposals around the four topics of the EU-LAC ICT Working Group: ICT for inclusion, ICT for health, Intelligent Transport Systems – ITS and Living Labs.
