The president of Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Glaucius Oliva, announced the four new projects approved in the second coordinated call between Brazil and the EC in ICT. The announcement took place during the AMERICASICT Forum held in Brasilia on 31 July at CNPq auditorium. The event, organised by the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT/MCTI), the Brazilian partner of AMERICAS project, and supported by the European Commission, brought together high-level experts and policy makers to address priorities and challenges for EU-LAC collaboration in ICT research and innovation and to provide input to the EU-Brazil dialogue in ICT.
The selected EU-Brazil projects are linked to four thematic lines, which were pre-defined in the call. The EUBrazilCC project falls under "Cloud Computing for Science" and will be coordinated in Brazil by the Federal University of Campina Grande. The project IMPReSS, coordinated by the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), is linked to "Sustainable Technologies for a Smarter Society." The RESCUER project, coordinated by the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) falls under "Intelligent Services and Applications for a Smarter Society" and Global ITV project, coordinated by the University of São Paulo (USP), under "Transmission and Broadband Hybrid TV Applications and Services."
