Successful contacts Chile-EU in Warsaw Proposers Day

The AMERICAS project organized two actions aiming at promoting the participation of Chilean ICT researchers in the European Commission's ICT Proposers’ Day 2012 in Warsaw, Poland on 26-27 September 2012:
- A call for letters of intent with the purpose of supporting the participation of a Chilean ICT researcher in the ICT Proposers’ Day.
- The opportunity to fill in a Researcher’s Profile Fiche for the attendants of the AMERICAS’ Master Class in Chile gave the chance to get in contact with the researchers attending the ICT Proposers’ day too.
These two actions were powerful instruments for networking between Chilean ICT researchers and their foreign peers as they enabled the Chilean researchers taking part in the Warsaw event to promote the potential of other Chilean organizations to participate in ICT projects.

Why the future is Latin American
“This 21st century will be our century, the century of Latin America,” wrote Sebastián Piñera, the president of Chile, in a recent article for The Economist. Piñera is right and the bet on “LatAm” as financiers like to refer to it, is a bet that is almost certain to come off.
Latin America has always been sexy and exciting, but now it is also a good place to make millions. A report from Deloitte last year said that the number of millionaire households in Brazil would pass a million by 2020.

The coordinator of the AMERICAS project, Yolanda Ursa, will participate as Observer in the Senior Official Meeting – SOM on Science and Technology that will take place in Concepción, Chile on 20-21 March 2012.

It will be attended by senior officials from Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean countries, as well as representatives from the EC DGs Research & Innovation and Information Society and Media.

AMERICAS supports the ICT policy dialogue between Europe and Latin America in order to foster research and innovation cooperation between both regions. Prior to the SOM, the AMERICAS Annual ICT Forum will take place in Santiago, Chile on 16 March 2012. ICT in Chile - Research Areas and Capabilities: preliminary study released
The Chilean National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) has released a preliminary study entitled ICT in Chile - Research Areas and Capabilities. The study was financially supported by the European Union (through the project CHIEP II).
The document presents preliminary results of an ongoing study, intended to report on the Chilean research capability and working areas in Information and Communication Technologies. The document helps readers to identify Chilean research centres, investigators and research areas, as a way to ease the cooperation in ICT research, development and technology transfer between the European Union and Chile.
The priority areas considered are those specified as research challenges in the work programme 2011 for the ICT theme of the EU FP7 Specific Programme 'Cooperation'
An updated and comprehensive version of the study will be available after December 2010 @ www.chiep.cl.
